Voter information on the General Election (Tuesday, Nov. 3)

The General Election will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at the Mason Elementary School. Polling hours have been set from 8 am to 7 pm.

Absentee ballot voting

  • Requesting a ballot: Download the official absentee ballot request. Be sure to fill out the front and back, but not the printed area that goes sideways. To submit the request, use mail, email, or the drop box at the Mann House. You can also track your ballot at https://app.sos.nh.gov/Public/AbsenteeBallot.aspx.
  • Submitting your ballot: Fill it out and return it as soon as possible to avoid any delays. Use mail, or hand it to the Town Clerk in person. (Knock on the side door at the Mann House.) Do not use the drop box. Ballots placed in the drop box will be returned to the voter, potentially delaying receipt. If you are returning a ballot for a spouse or any family member, call for an appointment. The Town Clerk’s office will be open on the Monday before the election (Nov. 2) from 3 to 5 pm for any more requests or drop-offs.
  • Ballot processing: Absentee ballots are preprocessed before election day to help expedite their processing on election day. The election committee meets with the Moderator who calls out the name of the voter and opens the outer envelope ONLY. The inner affidavit envelope is inspected to make sure it is signed properly by the voter. The voter’s name is highlighted on the checklist for the Ballot Clerk to locate quickly during the actual absentee ballot processing on election day, and checked off as having voted. It is critical that you sign the affidavit envelope, place the ballot inside the envelope, seal it and then place the affidavit envelope inside the return envelope and seal it. Also make sure your full name and domicile address are on the return envelope so it can be properly processed. If you’re doing an absentee ballot because of COVID concerns, please fill out the RIGHT side of the affidavit envelope under the disability description.

In-person voting

The setup at the school will be similar to the September Primary at the Town Hall. People will be let in slowly, so as not to overwhelm the Ballot Clerks and maintain social distance. A greeter will be at the door directing people to the proper station.

In-person voting without a face covering

As we had at the Primary, there was an outdoor voting table for those “unwilling or unable” to wear face coverings. There will be one at this election as well, and the greeter will direct you to a different location where you can vote. This is the procedure that will be followed:
  1. Tell the greeter you wish to vote at this table. He/she will direct you to that table.
  2. Give your photo ID to the person manning the table who will check the alpha list to see if you are a registered voter. There will be a “runner” who will take your photo ID to the Ballot Clerk who will check you off on the check-in checklist and hand the runner your voting materials.
  3. The runner will bring back the voting materials and hand it to the person staffing the voting table who will hand it to the voter.
  4. The voter will fill out the ballot behind the privacy screen and hand the completed ballot to the person staffing the table, who will place it in the additional locked ballot box. By law (RSA 659:23), under no circumstances is the voter to place their ballot in the box themselves.
This table is required to be staffed at all times so the ballot box is never unattended. The people who vote at this table are kept track of on a separate list to see who and how many people vote this way. At the end of the evening, the ballot box will be taken to the Moderator, who will open it at the same time as the other ballot box(es). The list will go to the Town Clerk who will check off those who voted at this table on the check-out checklist. The check-in and check-out checklists must match at the end of the election.
These accommodations were put in place by the Secretary of State’s office in recognition of people’s voting preferences and in consideration of the pandemic. How the towns implement these changes is pretty much up to them, as towns vary so much in size and procedures.

Planning Board: Notice of Public Hearing on Wednesday, Oct. 21

Notice is given in accordance with RSA 675:6 and RSA 675:7 that the Town of Mason Planning Board will hold a Public Hearing on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. in the Town Hall at 7 Meetinghouse Hill Road, Mason, NH to consider the following:

A public hearing to review and comment on the proposed 2020 update of the Mason Master Plan.  The proposed Master Plan update will be considered by the board for adoption.

You may submit comments in person or in writing. Any person with a disability who wishes to attend this public meeting and who needs to be provided with reasonable accommodation, please contact the Selectmen’s Office one week prior to the meeting so arrangements can be made.

Masks are required for attendance. Social distancing (6′) will be observed.
